Passenger in car collision rebuilding her life after life-changing injuries
A young woman who suffered a catalogue of serious injuries in a car collision faces lifelong health consequences as a result of the incident.
The woman was a passenger in a car which that turned into the path of another vehicle in September 2019, leaving her badly injured both physically and psychologically.
She suffered fractures to her spine and ribs, damage to her back causing chronic pain, and significant damage to her teeth. The woman was also left with PTSD and anxiety about getting into a car.
After spending two weeks in hospital, the woman spent months relying on her family for care due to her struggling as she struggled to move around and to overcome the pain. She also had to use a back brace to help aid her recovery from her spinal fractures.
Even now, years later, she continues to suffer from mobility problems and may need surgery on her spine in the future. Ongoing issues with sleep and fatigue continue to impact on her quality of life, and despite extensive dental work, she may need further surgery on her teeth in the years ahead.
Happily, the woman is now learning to live with the impact of her injuries, and has started her own business, which will allow her to work hours and in conditions that suit her needs.
Shortly after the collision, she turned to serious injury specialists at Slater and Gordon for help in rebuilding her life. As a result, she has been able to access bespoke therapy to support her mental and physical recovery.
“This young woman suffered life-changing traumatic injuries in this collision, and this situation has been devastating for her and her family,” says Gulderen Salih, senior associate at Slater and Gordon.
“This has been a hugely difficult time for them all, but particularly for our client, who has overcome significant challenges with mobility and pain, although she still has to live with these every day.
“We are very pleased to have enabled her to access the rehabilitation which has really made a difference to her recovery, and has seen her make very strong progress in her ongoing journey to get her life back on track.”
