Graduate suffers traumatic brain injury after being hit by a car
Our client suffered a traumatic brain injury after a car mounted the curb and hit her from behind at 40mph.
Our client
No one expects to begin a new year by being involved in road traffic accident. When walking home with her partner on new year's day, our client Aine was hit from behind by a car that had mounted the pavement. Narrowly missing her partner, the car hit Aine at 40mph. She woke up in the hospital days later, with no memory of what had happened.
When Aine woke up, everything had changed; the recent graduate was now struggling to remember her own name.
Suffering a traumatic brain injury, a fractured vertebrae in her neck and a skull fracture had left Aine struggling to remember things that had happened more than five minutes prior, and the names of people, places and foods.
After spending three weeks in hospital, Aine returned home where she had to wear a neck brace for two months. During this time, her memory and ability to find words fractionally improved.
Though Aine is now back working, she can only work part time, as her ongoing symptoms of constant fatigue and chronic neck, and knee pain allows.
Since the accident, Aine has improved significantly through physiotherapy and seeing a neuropsychologist, however she still struggles with forgetfulness, word recall, fatigue and chronic pain, all symptoms she now has to live with for the rest of her life.

‘I felt very seen and valued. It was very touching that they cared so much, not just about the case but about me’.
