My background is in general nursing and midwifery and during my training I had the opportunity to work in many speciality areas including general medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, mental health, orthopaedics, care of the elderly, ICU, A&E and more. I specialised in A&E nursing, working at a busy district general hospital, prior to training as a midwife in a large teaching hospital.

I have worked as a litigation nurse since 1997 and have gained experience through working in a number of well-respected law firms gaining a vast amount of exposure to a variety of medical negligence cases.

I have worked with Slater and Gordon for 12 years. My role as a litigation nurse is primarily pre-action and involves a comprehensive analysis of the medical records. I also undertake research to prepare a detailed chronology of events outlining the client’s treatment and considering the potential allegations of negligence. I am also able to use my knowledge and experience to provide advice on new enquiries and provide ad hoc advice to lawyers throughout the case. I am committed to enhancing my skills to support the team and regularly attend medico legal training to keep my knowledge up to date.

Career highlights

It was during my career as a nurse/midwife that I developed an interest in medical negligence. I believed that as a nurse my expertise and wide knowledge base, as well as my caring and compassionate nature, could be of value in assisting clients, solicitors and advocates with the understanding of medical records and procedures. It is a highlight for me every day to play a part in assisting lawyers in cases to help achieve justice for those affected by medical negligence.
