Road Safety Week: Encouraging responsible driving through the stories of those involved in road traffic collisions
At Slater and Gordon we are sharing the impactful stories of those involved in road traffic collisions, to highlight the importance of Road Safety Week.
Road Safety Week is recognised annually on the third week of November, dedicating time to raise awareness of responsible driving, delivering road safety messages and the impact dangerous driving can have.
What is Road Safety Week?
Road Safety Week is a national campaign created in 1997 by the charity Brake, in efforts to reduce road traffic injuries and fatalities. Slater and Gordon is a proud partner of Brake and legal panel members of its National Road Victim Service. The partnership shares key values in line with Brake’s vision for Road Safety Week, “a world where no one is killed or hurt on a road and we can all move in a safe and healthy way, whoever we are and however we travel.”
During Road Safety Week, Brake will share insight through campaigns to stop crashes on UK roads, reducing harm in crashes, bring services to those affected by injury or bereavement; as well as education programmes to improve knowledge of road safety and road laws.
In its 2025 campaign, Brake is placing those involved in RTCs at the heart of Road Safety Week through road crash statistics and sharing the work of those supporting families affected by road death or serious injury.
Road Safety in the UK
In a 10-year average from 2014 to 2023, five people die every day on UK roads and 80 people are seriously injured. More specifically, every 17 minutes someone is killed or seriously injured.
In 2023, 1,695 people were killed and 28,967 were seriously injured.
The UK Government recorded that more than 50% of fatal collisions were assigned at least one speed related road safety factor, addressing concerns in reckless driving and a call for improvement in safer driving practices.

Road Safety Week provides a focal point in the year for drawing attention to the vital importance of this, and helps to reinforce the fact that being safe and considerate will help to protect ourselves and others and will save lives.
At Slater and Gordon, we are only too keen to give our backing to Road Safety Week and to help in spreading awareness as far as possible, to reach as many people as we can with this hugely important message.”
